Why do people accuse Obama of being a socialist? His plan sounds more like the Borg Collective to me?

Basically, under socialism everyone lives under a slow process of decay where the government controls your life in an effort to make everyone equal. Under the Borg plan, you simply join the collective whether you want to or not, and turn your life over to the goals of the autonomous collective. I have been to some Democratic rallys and the Borg plan is what I hear people talking about.
