Is Earth Hour Bad for the Earth?

Won't burning candles or having a bonfire release more carbon into the atmosphere? If you are trying to save the planet from global warming (though some of us in the Midwest have just dealt with or are still dealing with blizzards), wouldn't it be better to enjoy your earth hour in darkness? Or you could read a good book by the light of your cell phone. I think the global warming thing is absurd. Of course, soon we will see some 'global warming' in these parts because it's spring. In the fall, we will see some global cooling.
