Inhalling gazes the effects and the danger?

in my job there was a small fridge in a small room, there was a leak and a gaz i think it is amonia as the firemen said, we smell the gaz and i went to check where it comes from when i opened the door something hit my eyes and nose and i inhalled it in it was very painfull , i went running to wash my nose and eyes. after five minutes i started feeling faint and difficulty in breathing and pain in the chest.....they took me to the hospital but the doctor said i hvae no idea how to deal with it,,,some Oxgine then they released me ,,,,my question is can u please tell me what is that gaz and is affecting in a long term, ie, has it any effects in future as cancer or lung problems?, i will be so gratefull if u can help
