I was wondering SHM equation= Asin(wt+phi) whearea wave equation gives Asin(kx-wt+phi)?

where does e kx come from. In a wave does a particle in that particular point bobs up and down like SHM if so can i use Asin(wt+phi) to describe the motion of that particular particle.
