Where is Mel Gibson now?

Ever since the whole rant on Gibsons ex grilfriend I havent heard much about him. He is one of my favorite actors/directors and it seems like he once again he has dissapeared from the movie industry. Does anyone know where Gibson is now and if he plans coming back into the movie business.
