I want a used VW GTI MKIV (98 - 05) but I'm hesitant due to the fact that they apparently have frequent proble?

The only problem i've had with my mkiv is the suspension just gets ate up with the terrible roads in south dakota with the factory sport suspension else the thing is mechanically the most reliable car i have owned. I replaced the clutch at 125000 miles and besides suspension that's it. The suspension parts are cheap from online sources too, like 14 dollar oem tie rod ends etc. The only bad thing i can think of is axles other than oem wont last more than 20 miles on the vr6.
